Enspect, Inc. specializes in working closely with architects and owners to provide structural design of custom homes in urban and rural settings. Enspect, Inc. is experienced in the design of homes with unique features and varying soil conditions such as on sand dunes near the shores of Lake Michigan, in soft soils requiring the use of caissons or drilled pier foundations and homes in close proximity to other structures and property lines requiring use of offset foundations and grade beams. Enspect, Inc. has provided the structural design of custom homes ranging in size from 2000 sq. ft to over 10,000 sq. ft.
Michigan Lakeshore Residence
4,000 sq. ft. vacation home and guest house on the dunes overlooking Lake Michigan. The structure is comprised of a unique blend of steel and wood framing. Due to the lack of structural walls at the first floor, the chimney structure was designed as a cantilevered steel truss to resist the loads from the winds off Lake Michigan. The guest house is a steel frame structurally designed to support a “green” roof.

9,000 sq. ft. home in Highland Park, IL. Challenges included basement levels to 23’ and limited structure. Strategically placed load bearing wood walls and steel columns and beams allow transparency along the perimeter, which sets this contemporary design apart from others along a beautiful stretch of a tree-lined bluff.

3,500 sq. ft. weekend home in Beverly Shores, IN. In order to maximize views of Lake Michigan and the adjacent dunescape, large windows were designed into this 3-story, wood-framed home. Several design challenges included design and construction of multi-level foundation retaining structures along steep duneland topography.
