Some past projects have included design of new building facilities from the preparation of general arrangement plans and elevations to define the facility requirements through preparation of final construction drawings for the new facility. Enspect, Inc. had also provided structural design services for the design of modifications or upgrades to existing facilities such as roof and floor upgrades, platform installations or modifications, and building column removal for door installation. Other projects have included equipment layouts, foundation design and platform designs for new equipment installations, including pickle lines, rolling mills, looping pits, shears, slitters, fans, motors and tanks requiring secondary containment, crane runway design and design for upgrade at numerous plants, design of fall protection systems for numerous plants, and design of hoist beams, gantry cranes and other lifting devices.
New Facility Design:
Corrugating Plant –
Statesville, NC
Enspect, Inc. served as the structural Engineer of Record for this 356,500 sq. ft. cardboard corrugating plant. The building houses a two-story 15,000 sq. ft. office area, two separate corrugators, various finishing machines, a paper roll storage area, 35 truck docks, and a 450’ long railroad dock. The foundation design includes a complex network of pits, trenches, mats, thickened slabs, and spread footings for the corrugating and finishing machines.
Paper Mill –
Staten Island, N.Y.
Enspect Inc. served as the structural Engineer of Record for this 11,000 sq. ft., 80’ high process building addition at a paper mill. The building consists of a conventionally designed braced frame building support by piles and grade beams.
Steel Processing Plant –
Baltimore, MD
Enspect Inc. served as the Engineer of Record for this 95,000 sq. ft steel processing plant addition, which houses a pickle line, slitting line and rolling mill. The project included the design of all building and equipment foundations with numerous deep access pits, platforms and building utilities.
Safety and Operational Improvements/Upgrades:
Many of the projects Enspect, Inc. gets involved with are requested due to operational or safety concerns. Enspect has provided engineering design and drawings to improve a wide range of conditions commonly found in heavy industrial facilities. Some of the many examples of these are as follows:
-
Maintenance access platforms
-
Monorails and hoist beams
-
Modifications to existing buildings
-
Upgrading of EOT crane runways and cranes
In many instances, for these types of projects, Enspect's clients present a problem or concern and look to Enspect to recommend a solution. This typically involves providing preliminary engineering, feasibility studies and conceptual scope development. Enspect is very familiar with this stage of project development and can provide suitable general arrangement drawings and construction cost estimates to enable their clients to confidently proceed to the final engineering design stage.
In the final engineering stage, Enspect, Inc. will typically provide the structural engineering calculations, design drawings, shop fabrication detail drawings for the structural steel and the specifications necessary to obtain contractor bids. Enspect, Inc. can also assist during construction by providing field engineers to monitor and provide technical assistance to contractors performing the work or complete construction management services.
